MADRID, Spain — Volunteers from the Church of Scientology, Youth for Human Rights and Fundación MEJORA have taken human rights education into the streets of Madrid.
Through direct conversations with human rights pedestrians and the distribution of educational leaflets, participants introduced the public to the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The outreach took place around Puerta del Sol, where an ongoing housing protest has drawn public attention to social rights and civic participation. Volunteers concentrated on raising awareness of universal rights without endorsing specific political demands.
The volunteers used resources from internationally established human rights education programmes supported by Scientology. They explain rights such as equality before the law, freedom of religion, access to education and adequate living conditions.
The Universal Declaration connects human dignity with social protections and recognises education as an important means of advancing respect for fundamental freedoms.
According to Ivan Arjona, who represents Scientology before the EU, OSCE, Council of Europe and United Nations, human rights education supports civic responsibility and mutual respect.
The programme forms part of the Church of Scientology's wider support for human rights education, rooted in the importance L. Ron Hubbard placed on fundamental freedoms.
The Madrid initiative illustrates how international human rights principles can be shared through practical community activities.
Further details are available in the Scientology human rights education report from Madrid.
